April Fools Day as effective as a wet tissue - thanks to Telkom.

I had great plans of posting a great April fools joke. Only to find out this morning that my internet was down. There goes the initiative. Thanks once again Telkom for ruining my day.
I must admit that the subject of the April fools joke was Telkom. But the loss of internet and the proposed joke was purely co-incidental. If Telkom was playing a April fools joke by disabling the internet it was indeed a sick and potentially liable one, as it would have some serious repercussions for business.
I was inundated with calls this morning of clients complaining that their internet and e-mail was down. All around Johannesburg and surrounding areas. From Sandton, to Alberton and Germiston, clients complained about their loss of internet. Mine eventually came up round about 11:00 am.
The April fool post was Telkom to institute a bandwidth tax. Which I had hoped to get out early, as all April fools jokes, by tradition, they end at 12:00 noon. Only being able to make the post at 11:00, kinda made my post as effective as a wet tissue. I wanted to get the post out early. To get most exposure and then to have the best possible effect.
But with no internet, how was I to do that. I was so so frustrated. This has happened many times before. Here we sit with out any recourse. This situation was only highlighted because I had something specific to do at a specific time. Other times I would just shrug it off and wait.
We are reduced to accepting inferior quality products and bad service because we have no other options. Yes we can move to Neotel. But Neotel is not available everywhere. Besides Telkom still holds the cards to fixed line infrastructure.
When oh when can we tell Telkom to shove off? When can we expect the competition to put pressure on the likes of Telkom? I am so sick and tire of this. Sick and tired of complaining, because it bring no joy. If I had this type of service in a restaurant, I would get up and walk out with out paying, and go to another restaurant. We cant do that with Telkom.
What can I use to threaten them in order to garner better service? Nothing, absolutely nothing.
Telkom really sucks at times.
