Blogging is all about useful information. Many people flock to blogs that have “How-to” articles. So it is natural that a “How-to” is a great post for a blog. But another one, is a list post. When you do not have a post at hand or you want to give people a quick short post of some important things, then a list post is ideal.

Traffic to a blog is essential for its health. There are many ways of generating traffic. You can find all sorts of methods all over the internet.

A “Blog Carnival” is one such method. It is a post that lists blog post by other bloggers. This is helpful ingenerating traffic because people who post to the blog carnival, have opportunity to visit each others posts and leave comments.

I am partaking in the 31 days to better blogs from Problogger. Some of the challenges is to write a list post, link to another blogger in your post, make another blogger famous.

Well I thought why not combine all of these into one post. Below you will see a type of blog carnival, a type of list post, with a list of different how-to articles.

Below is a list of "how-to" articles in no particular order. All posts are from the participants of the "31 day to building a better blog" challenge.

Please visit these posts and leave your comment. Enjoy.

Sarah Mae,

Well, I did not say how many you can post. Well done.

BTW, my daughter's name is Dana-Mae, I though you would like that.

Liz,
Its a pleasure. Wait till the next issue, I'll show you how it is really done, with a theme that is more geared towards your own niche.

Thanks for teach us something new Robert. I look forward to the next part. I left comments only on four blogs because I wouldn't have a clue as to what to write on most of the others.

Hey Robert

Re: A carnival list of How-to articles.

Thanks Guys for the great feedback.
I am going to answer all in one comment. Just easier that way.

@Heidi, its a pleasure

@Ravi, thanks. I hope it is as much fun for you as it was for me. As long as you get enjoyment and your readers get enjoyment out of it. I am happy

@Ivan, Yes you can host the next carnival. But what I was going to do, was show guys how to host their own Carnival with their own theme and niche using blogcarnival.com. So you are ahead of the game at the moment. Could you hang tough a few days, then we can all start our own carnival. You will have yours and have the ability to post to others.

@Lakita, thanks for the comment. I realise that not everyone will enjoy every post, as it might not be their cup of tea. But it is great that you posted on those that you feel you can make a contribution. Once you host or post to a carnival in you niche, it will be easier.

@Robyn, thanks. Yeah I did forget to post my post here. I tried to remember, but got so busy putting up the other entries I clean forgot. Oh well.

@Yemoonyah, Thanks if you have gotten something out of it, then it was worth while.

@Laura, as long as we all learn something new, then its great. Keep in touch and I will show you how to host your own, and join other carnivals in your niche

Ok thanks everyone, hope I haven't forgotten any one.

Thanks Robert for this great post.

I saw you talk about this over at the 31DBBB Forum and was interested to see how it works. I can't wait for your upcoming post on how to host carnivals.

Re: A carnival list of How-to articles.

Gawd what a variety of well written and informative posts; I am glad to be part of it... Reading the posts and exploring the blogs got my mind stretched & opened again and again, on things I never think about...

I left a comment for everyone, except Laura whose permalink is broken, but I read her post on the homepage... the most challenging to me was "cleaning for pregnant wives" from Sarah Mae and was grateful to have Michael Nokier's "how to find inspiration" to help me & finally I came up with something...

I gave a kick in the ant hill of of couponing, we'll see how a gentle controversy flies in Heidi's skies... and left an "unforgettable story" at Elizabeth's

All in all, I did try to come up with an angle for each, with different degrees of success I am sure; I ran a little bit out of steam with Ivan but I promise, next time I'll start the list from the bottom up.

Thanks a million for those that visited my post, another million to those that left a comment, I do appreciate your effort and I am delighted that some got something out of it, it is for me an invaluable reward.

Last, special appreciation and gratitude to Robert Bravery for his initiative in putting the carnival together and teaching us in the process...
Robert, I owe you one!

Re: A carnival list of How-to articles.

Thanks Robert,

I look forward to learning how to run a carnival on my blog as well. I do apologize to everyone who could not find my blog earlier. The problem was I did not know that you had to put some code in an htaccess file to get permalinks to work. This issue is now resolved, every month I get a little more techie.

Re: A carnival list of How-to articles.

Fred,

Thanks for the great comment. This is what it is all about. Interacting with other bloggers, leaving comments, and even giving out the occasional heads up. great stuff.
Oh by the way, you don't owe me one, commenting here and on other blogs is reward enough.

Laura,

Glad you got it working. I went over to the post and left a comment. Good post by the way.
If any of you are playing with the stock market or buying and selling shares, go over to Laura's post for a great tip.

Re: A carnival list of How-to articles.

Kelly,

It was a pleasure. It seems that all who participated benefited from it in some fashion or other.
Whether it be comments or readership or traffic. Thats the beauty and diversity of blogging. No one format is going to get you that super blog. But adding all the bits and pieces together amount to a reasonable amount. Whether it be traffic, readers or whatever.
I sure hope you got something out if it, as I did.
