How to make Gatorpeeps work for you

GatorPeeps is based on the Twitter model. A Micro blogging service similar to the likes of Twitter, Pownce and Plurk. But you might say, so what's the big deal? there is Twitter already, how is this going to take off? How will it work for me? But just like anything in life, nothing is automatic. It takes hard work, time and consistency. In this post we will be looking at a 10 points on how you can make Gatorpeeps work for you.
1. Know your goal
You have to ask yourself this question. Why am I using Gatorpeeps, or why should I use Gatorpeeps. Deciding what your goal is and what you actually want to gain out of Gatorpeeps will go a long way in making Gatorpeeps work for you.
Are you on Gatorpeeps to socialize? Learn more about your hobby or business? Or are you there to sell? Each one has a different approach and knowing what you want in advance can save you precious time and energy when incorporating Gatorpeeps into your marketing plan.
2. Follow people in your profession
Contrary to popular news, you do not know everything. Following people in your profession and niche is a great way to gain valuable knowledge. If you see big names in the business you happen to be in, see if they are on Gatorpeeps. If not, why not invite them? I know Gatorpeeps is just in its infancy, buts its people like you and me that make it a success or failure. These big wigs usually post interesting links, thoughts, and tips that can be very helpful to you.
3. Keep abreast of the news
I have various ways that I follow news items in my niche, I have RSS feeds from CNN, Fox news, news24, Google news and blogs. Staying on top of the news enables you not only to get valuable information out using Gatorpeeps, but also gives you great material to blog about. But posting interesting and informative news items on Gatorpeeps is a service that many people will appreciate. It gives the idea that you are willing to give rather than receive.
4. Stay in the loop with companies and organization you like.
Promoting other companies and blogs or organizations on a micro blogging service like Gatorpeeps is a great way to become popular well known and liked. It also helps to get information about these to those who follow you. You never know, those who follow you, might like some of the things you like.
5. Stop caring about how many people follow you.
It is better to have 10, 20, 50 people that matter to you and you want to hear from, than have 2021 people following you who have no interest in you or what you do or who hardly ever post updates. On twitter you can get some programs that add 1,999 twitters all at once and hope that enough people have auto follow or find you relevant at that moment to follow back. I don’t think this is available for Gatorpeeps. But if it is or if in the future one does become available, don’t use it. They are worthless.
6. Good Gator etiquette and bad Gator etiquette (Gatorquette)
“Do unto others as you would have them do unto you”, is a good principal to follow. Be informative, exercise manners, be communicative. Good forms of communication can include offering advice, starting conversations, offering the odd snippet of information about your organisation where appropriate, and Quoting (like retweeting in twitter) good and valuable information you have seen. Its all about giving.
7. Quoting
A Quote on Gatorpeeps (similar to a RT – retweet on twitter) is where you pass someone else’s peep or update along giving them full credit, this is an essential part of how Gatorpeep works, as it allows a great number of people to pass along information quickly and easily. It is also a great way of finding other people who may be good-fits within your business circle that you may not have otherwise known about.
8. Private messaging
You can send a message only to one person. You can do that from the Private Message link. But don’t spam. Be considerate. PM is a personal thing, and should not be abused. Used correctly it can build up strong and long lasting relationships. Relationships that lead to networking and perhaps even business.
9. Don’t Spam
The pain of email and now the pain of micro blogging and social networking. If you want Gatorpeeps to work for you, don’t spam. Don’t post irrelevant stuff. Chitchat is acceptable, but posting 100 updates one after the other is a bit abusive. Think of others using the service.
10. Your Thoughts
Lastly, what are your thoughts? I have not covered everything. Perhaps you have a point you want to cover. Make this last point about your idea. Leave it in the comments below. We will all benefit from it.

Re: How to make Gatorpeeps work for you
I learned a few new things from your list. It should be used as "terms and good manners" on Gatorpeeps. I have an issue with people selling stuff on Gatorpeeps or Twitter. Maybe it is just me, but it can easily turn into spam. What I like is that you can follow people even if you are really active in that industry, but it maybe a hobby. More knowledge never harmed anyone. I really hope and believe that Gatorpeep will grow into a first class "micro blogging" environment. By Rustig on
