When will ADSL be affordable and fast as compared internationally?

Comparing international prices for ADSL, we are not only behind on technology, but we are paying so much more than anybody else. Well at least more than the majority.
Just recently my ADSL line was capped. I had to pay R64+ per gig to get back online. I also recently saw a mail where someone in Australia was paying AUD$59.95 pm (R400) for ADSL2 line 20Mbps, 12Gb cap and he said that the ISP is absolutely incredible.
Comparing international prices, we are not only behind on technology, but we are paying so much more than anybody else, well at least more than the majority. Especially for what we are getting. In Britain can get an 8 mbs line uncapped for R100. Most of the providers internationally provide uncapped ADSL access. Whereas Telkom seeks to cap us merely for profit reasons. You can see other comparisons at the helkom website.
Telkom would like us to compare ADSL prices with the rest of Africa. I mean how can you compare us with Zimbabwe, or Ghana, or Kenya, or DRC etc. I mean doing that just moves us backwards, Don't we as a country want to move forward.
Then there is the service and competition. The service here stinks. We can't even complain effectively. The other day when I complained the operator told me that this is the way it is and he can't do anything about it, I must just live with it. I can't threaten to move to another provider, there isn't any. Neotel might be in the country, but they are not yet setup everywhere. I have no Neotel access yet where I am.
What can we do? We cannot boycott Telkom, we can't complain. Just browsing the internet, there are thousands of anti-Telkom sites and pages out there. You can't for the most part, move to another service provider.
What can we do? Nothing, we just have to live with it. Like writing this blog article will likely achieve nothing, except maybe draw a few comments from the many people out there who feel the exact same way as I do.
Are you as frustrated as I am? Drop us a comment, let us know. I realise that it will not achieve anything but it is good to get it off your chest, aint it?
