Email a new reader to build your blog’s readership

emailicon Blogs are easy to start but difficult to maintain, and even more difficult to grow and make successful. If you haven't picked up on this yet, your readers are your blogs most valued asset. Without them your blog is just an HTML page amongst billions. Email a new reader or commenter to build that relationship and build your blog.

Emailing a new reader or commenter on your blog will certainly create a great impression and solidify your appreciation of your readers.

Loyal Readers

When you email a new reader you significantly increase the chances of them coming back to your blog. If you get them to come back to your blog, the chances are that they will return and become a loyal reader increases considerably.

So email a reader now, thank them for commenting and tell them that you’re looking forward to further interactions.

Think of your blog is a conversation platform, your post, your readers comment. A good blogger needs to interact and converse with their readers. Extend that conversation through email.

Include a link back to your blog so they know who you are. Make the email relevant to their comment (ie answer a question they asked or add to their comment in some way). Make it personal. There are tools that you can find on the net that do this automatically for you, but who wants to talk to a program. If you grasp the idea that a reader is a person and treat them as such, you would have won that reader.

Two thing about Loyal readers.

  1. Spread the Word – A single loyal reader can soon become many loyal readers. Don’t underestimate the power of “Word of Mouth”. It is your greatest marketing strategy. Loyal readers can promote your blog through their own blogs, word of mouth and social networking sites like Twitter, Gatorpeeps, Friendfeed, Facebook.
  2. Build Page Views – One reader might not sound like much. But overtime they can potentially view your blog hundreds (if not thousands) of times. A daily visit from that reader for a year brings an extra 365 page views to your blog. Do the math, gain an extra loyal reader every day for a full year and the numbers start to add up. All of a sudden at the end of the year you have 66,795 page views. That’s an average of 5,566 new page views per month.

So what are you waiting for? Email that new reader, send an email to that new commenter.

Have you ever done this before? How has it worked for you? Once you have emailed your new reader, why not leave a comment here to tell us how it went. We are dying to hear from you.

New here, or perhaps you've been here a few times? Like this post? Why not subscribe to this blog and get the most up to date posts as soon as they are published.

Re: Email a new reader to build your blog’s readership

This is such good advice Robert. I remember someone else telling me this months ago, and I started doing it, and it does work! But I forgot and need to get going again. Thanks for the reminder-

This is great advice. I will add it to my blogging development plan. I will start doping it from this week. Thanks Robert!

Re: Email a new reader to build your blog’s readership

I do email readers. I've emailed them if they mention they are new to visiting my blog, or if they leave a helpful comment or make a suggestion. I also answer questions readers ask. They often email me back. Once, I had a snarky comment made about a recipe with an accusation that I don't really try the recipes I share. I emailed the reader back with a nice "sorry, it didn't work for you". she returned the email and was much nicer after my response. I don't know if she's still reading my blog or not. I hope so.

@Tiffany,
Thanks for the great feedback. A perfect example of what care and personal interaction can do for a reader. I am sure that they were converted to a loyal reader.
BTW, Nice blog. Made me very hungry reading your recipes.
