Telerik have released an open source lightweight UI extension framework for building rich views in the ASP.NET MVC environment.
Telerik have said that this CTP of the Telerik Extensions for ASP.NET MVC lays the foundation for the new UI extension framework. It offers a new UI for a number of components that leverage and build upon jQueryUI.
Included in this CTP is the Accordion, Slider, Tab, DatePicker, MessageBox and Progress Bar.
These jQueryUI wrappers are just a preview of the Telerik Extensions for ASP.NET MVC framework. Later this year Telerik will release new components such as Grids, Menus and more.
Licensing
Telerik Extensions for ASP.NET MVC will be offered under the Microsoft Public License (MS-PL), the OSI-approved license used in the distribution of the ASP.NET MVC framework. Under this license, developers can freely use and redistribute the Telerik ASP.NET MVC Extensions in all projects, both commercial and open source. A commercial license that includes support will also be available
What’s Available?
Accordion
The Accordion is a web control that allows you to provide multiple panes and display them one at a time. It works like a bunch of collapsible panels where only one can be expanded at a time.
DatePicker
It enables developers to implement a good looking date selection interface for web applications.
ProgressBar
The progress bar allows you to display the progress of processes.
Slider
Allows users to select a value from a defined range using a smooth or step-based slider.
Message Box
Displays a message box that can contain text and symbols that inform and instruct the user.
Tab
Break your content into multiple sections, swap between them to save space.
Web Asset Manager
Similar to the ScriptManager available in the Microsoft Ajax suite, the Web Asset Manager combines all configured JavaScript files to reduce the number of requests made to the web server.
Download
Telerik Extensions for ASP.NET MVC is being made available as a Community Technology Preview that you can freely download from CodePlex.
