What a ticketing debacle – FIFA 2010 World Cup

CRASH, BOOM, BANG. Familiar signs as once again systems crash over the ticket sales of the 2010 World Cup.
160 000 tickets went on sale today Friday 28 May 2010 at 09H00. FIFA promised that it was all systems go and that the fiasco that happened with the last ticket sales would not happen again.
People forced their way into the queues, according to fans, and some were pushed up against the doors of the ticket centre. Police were present and an official told impatient supporters that they would not be allowed in if they did not calm down. Queues spilled out of the building and down the sidewalk.
Daniel Shalem, an 18-year-old football fan from the nearby Melrose suburb, said he had been waiting since 21:00 on Thursday night.
"There is chaos here," he said. "It's disorderly. People are pushing in." – Sports24.
Many also tried in vain to buy tickets from the FIFA website. Only to have the website time out time after time. David O’Sullivan from 702 Talk Radio tried the website the whole day from 08h55 till just past 17H00.
FIFA’s last ticket release, on April 15, was also hampered by technical problems and long delays and resulted in police being called in to some of the 10 FIFA ticket centres across the country.
Now I’m a web developer and programmer. I’ve developed many applications and websites. Admittedly not the size of the FIFA systems, but enough to know that extensive testing should take place.
There are numerous tools available to load and stress any given system before it goes live. Surely Match and FIFA would have learned from there previous mistakes and system crashes.
Who are the system administrators, the IT company running this awful mess? Surely they know by now that this thing should have been stress tested extensively.
Kind of reminds us South Africans of the eNaTIS system.
Did anyone manage to get any tickets? Did you queue up? For how long? What was you experience? Please let me know.
