LinkedIn vs Facebook

Social networking is taking the world by storm. Everyone has a MySpace or Facebook account. What about the new comer to the party, Twitter. But few realise that there is another competitor, perhaps a more serious social networking site, and one that is more geared towards business and professionals.
I am talking about LinkedIn. LikedIn is another social networking site with a difference. Facebook and MySpace is a social utility that connects people with friends and others who work, study and live around them. Its more like chit chat. You post comments, photo's, little snippets of what you're doing. But few people are able to leverage the power of Facebook for business.
Enter in a social network site like LinkedIn. Linked in is aimed at the professional, the business man. It is about networking. Helping other out, recommending professionals, and finding clients. LinkedIn is an online network of more than 30 million experienced professionals from around the world, representing 150 industries. When you join, you create a profile that summarizes your professional accomplishments.
Have you ever exchanged business cards at a lunch or dinner. Well linked in is like exchanging digital business cards. This means that you are connected to people who are connected to people. Your network consists of your connections, your connections’ connections, and the people they know, linking you to thousands of qualified professionals. Don't you just like that term, "I am connected".
Through your network you can:
- Find potential clients, service providers, subject experts, and partners who come recommended
- Be found for business opportunities
- Search for great jobs
- Discover inside connections that can help you land jobs and close deals
- Post and distribute job listings
- Find high-quality passive candidates
- Get introduced to other professionals through the people you know
While Facebook and MySpace are great social networking sites, they do not seem to be professional enough to attract business. Although there is nothing stopping you from using both for social and business. Any thing you can do to promote you business, blog or websites always helps.
So which do you prefer, Linked in, Facebook? Please drop us a comment and let us know. Would be great to hear from you.
