The feud between web developers and web designers continues. Face it though, we probably won’t land the hot opposite sex. Well at least that has been the tradition for the last few years.
Anyway, what is the difference between web developers and web designers?
Web Design
Web design is the customer-facing part of the website. It is more concerned with the UI. The look and feel of a web page and web site.
A web designer is concerned with how a site looks and how the customers interact with it. A Good web designer knows how to put together the principles of design to create a site that looks great.
They also understand about usability and how to create a site that customers want to navigate around in because it’s so easy to do.
Web Development
Web development is the back-end of the website, the programming and interactions on the pages. Web development is about how to code the site.
Using tools like PHP, C#, Java. DHTML, AJAX, a web designer creates functionality for the site.
A web developer focuses on how a site works and how the customers get things done on it. They understand about how web forms work and can keep a site running effectively.
Blurring of the Two
Often times many people take on the role of both activities. There is nothing wrong with this. But generally there will always be something lacking.
Whether you are a pure web developer or a pure web designer or you can do both, knowing the difference between the two will help you greatly.
