Do You Blog Outside Your Blog?

We all know how important your blog is. We all know how much effort you have put into your blog to make it a success. But my question to you is, are you not paying too much attention to your blog?
Have you widened your blogging activities to things that are outside your blog? Do you get involved in other things other than your blog?
You would be surprised to know that widening your blogging activities is just as effective in promoting your blog, perhaps more, than just concentrating on your blog alone.
Here are a few things that you might do outside your blog that will directly impact your blog
- Guest post – Find a good few bloggers who allow and want guest posts. Write a relevant post for that blog. You won’t believe how that can directly impact your won blog. More traffic, new readers, new community.
- Blog comments – comment liberally on different blogs. But be sure to be helpful. Don’t just leave a comment for the sake of commenting. Writing a beneficial comment is a sure fire way to get noticed.
- Answer questions – Look for questions on forums and sites like LinkedIn or Yahoo Answers. Then answer those questions. If possible point them to a blog post on your blog that discusses your answer in more detail.
- News letters – I haven’t been big on news letters, but that does not mean they don’t work. Yeah, it’s one thing that my blogging is lacking. That's why I’m mentioning it here. Don’t repost your blogs in your news letter. But inform people about what’s been happening with your blog, your life. Inform them about what’s coming. Share your goals and your ups and downs.
- Article marketing - Article marketing is not as big as it used to be. But there still is a place for it. Some bloggers actually swear by it. Similar to a guest post. Most article submission sites allow you to link back to your blog. If so, it would be a better idea to link back to a post that covers the same or similar topic as the article.
- Social Media – Social media sites like Twitter and Facebook should not be used entirely to just promote your blog. Get involved in other peoples blogs, tweets and updates. Promote their blog posts. Answer questions. Be helpful. Post beneficial updates or tweets.
- Networking – Build up a community. Network with other bloggers. Network with people in general. Offer your services, for free if necessary. Remember networking is first about what you can offer to others.
- Ask Questions – Ask questions that you don’t know the answer to. Ask on forums, LinkedIn Yahoo answer. Ask questions on social media sites like Twitter and Facebook. Pose a question to another blogger.
Blogging is not just about writing articles on your site. There is a whole other world attached to it. I have not even touched on things like indirect marketing, offline activities etc.
What other activities have you been involved in that have directly or indirectly affected your blog? How have you blogged outside of your blog?
