Microsoft buys Skype for $8.5 Billion

Microsoft Corp. is buying Internet communications company Skype Global for a stunning $8.5 billion.
This is Mycroft's largest acquisition to date. Skype is owned by an investment group led by Silver Lake which bought it from eBay in 2009 for a skimpy $2 billion. In 2005, eBay bought Skype for $2.6 billion.

Skype is considered by many, and rightly so, as the leader in Internet voice and video communications.
Skype has 170 million users and who have notched up over 207 billion minutes in voice and video conversation during 2010
Skype has in the region of 107 million users a month connecting for more than 100 minutes a month on average.
At peak times there are round about 23 million users online.

I wonder how the so called competitors of Microsoft are going to react. Will they cull Skype or strike a deal with Microsoft. Time will tell.
