If You Want To Be A Good Blogger, Be Yourself

Too many people today in the world of blogging seek to mimic some other famous blogger who seems to have made it in the blogosphere.
If you want to be a good blogger, then be yourself. Don’t try and mimic someone else.
Be yourself but be different
The blogosphere does not want another Pete Cashmore, or Gina Trapani, Darren Rouse, or Yaro Starak.
You and I will never be able to be like them. We need to be something different. Something refreshing, something new.
The blog readers want to get to know you, not another clone.
The secret is not what you write about. There is nothing new under the sun. You will probably find that every known topic has been extensively written about. So it is very unlikely that you will come up with a new topic.
The secret is in how you write about what you write about. Sounds confusing, but it is not. It’s about your personality, your character. It’s about sincerity. It’s about your point of view, your slight slant on the topic.
You can’t please everyone
News Flash! If you haven’t figured it out by now, you can’t please everyone. There are a lot of critics out there. Some are good and some, well lets not go there.
Trying to appeal to everyone will result in bland content that lacks new ideas and fails to get people thinking. It is better to be loved by 100 people than just liked by 1,000. It is better to have a 100 loyal followers than 1000 passer by readers.
But realise this, that out of the 1000 passer by readers, there is probably 100 who really don't like you. They don’t like what you say and how you say it. They will also let you know their feelings. But that's ok. We learn to deal with those.
Talk to your friends
To become a better blogger be yourself. Figure out who you are amongst your friends, and transpose that into your blog.
Write as though you are talking to your closest friends.
- Be honest
- Be open
- Be sincere
- Be friendly
- Be compassionate
- Write about your own experiences
When you start to have readers and followers who consider you as a friend then you have become a better blogger.
What do you think? Got anything to add?
