Colpad Cheapest tablet in Sout Africa This year has been the year of the tablet. Tablets of all different sizes and models have burst onto the scene.

Obviously it started with the iPad. But having said that, the iPad was really not the first tablet. Apple just has that knack of making new gadgets and devices seem important. Then the rest of the world follows.

Very expensive

Problem is that these new devices, along with the new technology, freedom and fashion statement that they provide costs money.

For all intents and purposes, tablet devices are very expensive. From R4500  to close to R10000 (South African Rand @ R7 / $1) they are out of the reach of many folks.

For that price I can buy myself a decent desktop, and even a reasonable to decent laptop. With more functionality and power than a tablet. It’s a no brainer where most would spend their hard earned cash.

Unless you want a fashion statement, spending that kind of money for little reward in functionality is crazy.

The cheapest tablet device

Well don’t fret, a tablet under R1000 is here. TabletWorld, a division of LuckyMobile, launched the Colpad, the cheapest, full-featured tablet computer in South Africa, with a price tag of just R999. That's right only R999. Now I can afford that.

It is a Wi-Fi-only tablet that runs on Google Android 2.2. The Colpad has a 660MHz RockChip2818 processor with 4GB of Flash memory. It also has a Micro SD slot that will support Micro SD cards of up to 32GB capacity.

It comes pre-installed with a range of popular apps, including Angry Birds, Kindle reader, TuneinRadio, Facebook, Twitter, DropBox, Soundhound, Jango and IMDB.

The Colpad promises to be extremely user-friendly even if you are not used to touch screen devices. Because it has trackball functionality as well as a stylus. It also has a 4000mAH battery that offers up to six hours of life per charge.

Here is the list of the Colpads specs:

  • 7" TFT Touch panel (16:9, Resolution:800*480) - Resistive screen
  • Google Android 2.2
  • pre-installed with these amazing apps: Angry birds, Kindle, TuneinRadio, Facebook, Twitter, DropBox, Soundhound, Jango, IMDB & more!

Then for an extra R300 you can get yourself a keyboard case and stylus. Now you can’t beat that.
