Order your pizza via Twitter

Yes that's right, Mr Delivery is about to go out of business. You can now order your pizza via Twitter by tweeting your order through to the Naked Pizza using twitter. The address to tweet and to follow is http://www.twitter.com/nakedpizza.
It was only a matter of time before a business saw the real value or social networking, and in this case micro blogging. A uniquely healthy pizza joint in New Orleans, has replaced its “call for delivery” billboard in favour of something a bit more unorthodox: its Twitter handle. The restaurant now features a large Twitter bird above its storefront, inviting passersby to follow ‘NAKEDpizza‘ for special deals.
Although it would be mighty difficult for South Africans to order pizza from the Naked Pizza, the point as been made. Social networking is here to stay, and business better jump on the bandwagon.
The Naked Pizza is amongst the first brick and mortar businesses to so prominently feature its Twitter handle. Many were sceptical of the sign at first (it’s fairly easy to Photoshop the Twitter logo onto a billboard), but it has been confirmed with the New Orleans sign company that installed it that it’s real.
Social Networking is just taking off in South Africa. With the newly launched Twitter style service from Afrigator called GatorPeeps, South Africans are about to get more social. While this is not yet a threat for Mr Delivery, things could change in the not so distant future. Who knows, if GatorPeeps takes off like I think it will, then we could well be seeing pictures like this on GatorPeeps, but for South African business.
The question though is, how social are South African business? Are they ready for something like this? Will they actually start thinking outside the standard marketing box? If you own a business, are you making use of Social Networking sites like GatorPeeps or Twitter or Facebook?
Do you think this will take off in South Africa? Leave us a comment.
