A zombie is a creature that appears in books and popular culture typically as a reanimated dead or a mindless human being.
Who can forget the cult movie, “Night of the Living Dead”. Also modern movies like “Final Fantasy” and “I am Legend” come to mind depicting hordes of Zombies or the living dead.
Applied to a more natural state of human nature, a Zombie is someone who acts or responds in a mechanical or apathetic way. Going through the motions without any real feelings, thoughts or emotion.
On the Web, a zombie is an abandoned and sadly out-of-date Web site or blog.
Do you often feel like that when you’re blogging. That you’re just of going through the motions. Is your site a Zombie site.
Here are some points to watch out for.
Characteristics
Mobile but technically dead, without a heartbeat or other vital signs – Is your blog technically dead. There is nothing going on. No signs of fresh content for months or even years.
In a decaying state – You have not kept your blog up to date. Your theme is still stuck in the 1980’s. You are losing readers by the dozens. Your site is full of clutter and rubbish.
Non-communicative - Your blog does not say anything. Yes it has paragraphs of words, but they might as well be gibberish. You do not communicate any knowledge or help to anyone.
Unemotional – There is no emotion in your posts. It’s all same old same old and drab.
Unaffected – You and your blog seem unperturbed about losing readers and dropping PageRank. Your traffic is decreasing like a Ferrari with ABS brakes, but you seem unaffected and unperturbed.
